Where field science meets the sacred.

I’m a biologist, storyteller, and shamanic practitioner — reading the world through two lenses at once, the observer’s and the mystic’s. I write about animal messengers, wild places, the body, and the art of a more enchanted, adventurous life.

One Naturalist, Three Ways In

  • The Memoir

A story of wandering through change.

A vision quest through van life: cross-country driving through national parks and public lands, listening for answers about life purpose, next steps, and love.

What happens when someone packs their gear, significant other, and hope into 80 square feet, aiming for answers by the end of her six month journey? The answers may not be what she wants, but the vision she’s left with changes how she sees the world - and her path.

  • Field Guides

    Useful and downloadable.

Digital guides for the wild world and the body. From simplistic pointers for everyday living hack, to thriving through big change; from honing in your personal healing work, to creating a thriving relationship with nature. These are tools to enrich your life’s curiosities and experiences.

  • The Journal

Field Notes to Connect Nature & Tending

The writing that may have brought you here: totems, symbols, seasons, trees, relationship with self/others/the world, and practices you can bring into your life for everyday enchantment.

Where science wonder and magical awe come together to showcase the vibrance of life in and around us.

A coming-of-age told in miles and molt.

In Final Edits - 2026

Part travelogue, part reckoning: the story of setting out young, unraveling in unfamiliar places, and slowly learning to trust the wild — outside and in. For readers of nature writing and honest, searching memoir.

A white van with a bike mounted on the back parked next to a huge water pipe with a spraying leak in a forest. The driver is taking advantage of an impromptu carwash, a winding road lays ahead in the background.

ABOUT CRISTEN

I’ve spent my life at the meeting point of science and spirit — studying wild things, then listening to what they seem to be saying. My work weaves nature, adventure, the metaphysical, and the human experience into something you can actually live: a more awake, more enchanted everyday.

I write from the Ozarks, where the cedars and the owls do most of the talking.
